Brushed Brows brow lamination lifting

You couldn't have missed it: the brushed-up brow trend. Popular among models, makeup artists and brow pros. We at Mrs.Highbrow are a hugh fan either. But when it comes to brow lamination, with permanently (well, for a week or 4-6) lifted hairs, we are lightly critical. The pros and cons.

Every brow professional frequently meet them. Those stubborn brow hairs growing in different directions. Eyebrow gel can do a lot, but sometimes a better solution is needed. For these quirky brows there is now the newest technology Brow Lamination. The treatment to make eyebrows point in the right direction and giving them that great brushed-up look. Bonus: by lifting the hairs, the eyebrows immediately appear fuller. Hello catwalk brows!

Hot & happening

It is clear that this is a hot trend. Instagram is full of it. And the bold brow pics of makeup artists like @nikki_makeup are reposted hundreds of times a day. After the slick Insta brow we are clearly ready for something new. As an eyebrow specialist, a welcome addition to the menu. Nevertheless, it's important not to run blindly behind this trend, says Mrs.Highbrow's Ska. In the beauty industry it's not just about magic fingers and following trends, but mainly about what you as a specialist think is beautiful and what suits a customer. "Even more than henna brows, this trend is not suitable for every eyebrow. Only brows with reasonably long hairs are eligible for this. And there should not be too many bald spots in the brow.

A perfect face

And there is more. You need to have a damn good face for brow lamination. "I don't want to offend anyone," says Ska. "But some women just need a clean, not too wide eyebrow. And then I also speak for myself! Sometimes you want to bring balance to a face. For example, women with many wrinkles, a restless skin, a very an asymmetrical face, a somewhat coarser face. A brushed up brow can make it messy and disheveled. So as an eyebrow specialist it's your job to take a closer look to a brow and to be clear to a customer if brow lifting is not suitable for her. Rather the disappointment of a treatment that does not go ahead than the disappointment of a spoiled face."

How does brow lamination work?

A brow lamination kit consists of glue and three different lotions. First a thin layer of Adhesive is needed to push the hairs in the desired direction with a lifting tool. And then there are three lotions that are applied. The first two have a leave-inn time of 4 to 8 minutes, depending on the thickness and density of the hairs. And the brand you use. You can cover the lotions with plastic foil after application to speed up the process. Finally, there is a nourishing lotion that doesn't have to be removed. You will end up with brows like these from UK's @houseofbeautykh. Good to know: after lifting, the brows have a new fluffy shape, but the hairs still need to be brushed every morning for the perfect brushed-up effect. Be clear about this before you start.

The pros and cons of Brow Lifting

Benefits
- Beautiful full eyebrows with a tight shape for up to 4 weeks,
- The natural eyebrow is lifted
- It corrects stiff brows
- It can be perfectly combined with shaping and painting with regular paint
- It makes you an all-round brow stylist

Cons
- The treatment takes a reasonable amount of time
- It is not for everyone, and does not give everyone a spectacular result: you must have quite a few long hairs
- You work with permanent fluid and therefore cannot make adjustments quickly
- It cannot be combined with Brow Henna

When no Brow Lifting

If someone doesn't have the perfect face for brow lamination, it is therefore better not to perform this treatment. But there are more cases where it's not recommended, to prevent complaints and to serve your customers as well as possible.

- In case of very thin brows or short eyebrow hairs
- The first week after a henna treatment
- With previous allergic reactions to eyelash lift products
- On an irritated skin; acne / eczema or sunburn on the skin around the eyebrows
- During pregnancy and / or breastfeeding
- Within 4 weeks after a pmu treatment or chemical peels
- If hairs are already pointing in the right direction; a brow gel will suffice

How do you say no?

In our opinion Brow Lamination is a perfect addition to the menu of your salon. But what to do if someone has booked this treatment and you think it's not the right choice to her? Well, then use all your other amazing skills. You can bring the brows perfecly in shape by waxing or threading and suggest to tint them. So you can still use the sceduled time. And possibly finish the treatment by using transparent eyebrow gel, combing the hairs a bit up. For just a small brushed up effect.
